How can I fix a frozen pipe safely without causing damage?

You can safely thaw a frozen pipe by turning off the main water, opening nearby faucets, and warming the pipe slowly with a hair dryer or warm towels. Do not use an open flame. Start at the faucet and work toward the frozen section. If the pipe is split or you can’t access it, stop and call a licensed plumber. We repair frozen pipes during cold Milford winters and use non-destructive diagnostics to limit wall damage.

  • Turn off the main shutoff.
  • Open hot and cold taps.
  • Warm pipe slowly; never use flame.
